Alqatifa Orange Fabric Eco Print Cushion

Biya’s Linen series “Nayab” presents you with Cushion Covers made from orange fabric which is hand-dyed using natural plant-based colours.

The fabric is made by spinning the cellulose extract from the peels. It looks like and feels like silk; soft and shiny. Thanks to nanotechnology, the material still contains essential oils and vitamin C that are present in the citrus fruit peel. The fabric allows the skin to absorb these oils and is nourished by them, making the fabric a wearable body cream. Despite the oils, the fabric still doesn’t feel greasy. These oils are guaranteed to last at least 20 washing cycles.

The colour is derived from Natural heat dyes which are extracted from natural ingredients at a temperature of above 50 degrees Celsius and is totally plant based and chemical free.The colour on the fabric is derived from Indigo and this signature piece embodies a unique technique called Eco-Printing.

Eco printing is a technique that transfers plant colour and shape onto the cloth. Eco Printing creates natural impressions of leaves, using the natural pigments, tannins and acids present in leaves, by combining them with mordants, moisture and heat on the fabric. This piece has been hand crafted using Marigold flower petal to create this one-of-a-kind design. Each piece has an identity of its own and is a function of the natural conditions, colour of the botanical at the time of crafting.
